Minding Your Brain

Western Reserve PBS presents three programs that give helpful information on optimizing mental performance. Catch all three programs in one evening, Sunday, Aug. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Brain Fitness Program

Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. & 5 p.m.

Repeats Sunday, Aug. 17 at 3:30 p.m. & 8 p.m.

Dr. Michael Merzenich and his colleagues have created a system for strengthening the brain and making it perform with more agility, speed and comprehension.

The Brain Fitness Program is just that — a program to get your brain in better shape. It is designed to drive beneficial chemical, physical and functional change in the brain.

Multiple studies have shown a scientifically valid average improvement of more than 10 years.

Fight Alzheimer’s Early

Sunday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.

If you are one of the 80 million baby-boomer Americans concerned about your memory, the good news is that you can take specific actions to improve your brain’s health and minimize your chance of developing Alzheimer’s.

Many of the research studies indicate that you can indeed make your normal brain a stronger working machine. As an expert in the field of Alzheimer’s, Dr. Majid Fotuhi shares his advice.

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

Sunday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

A healthy brain is key to a great quality of life. The brain, of course, figures in everything we do – our work life, our relationships, the way we feel and the way we perceive the world.

Any damage to the brain — through aging, substance abuse, trauma or other surprising factors — can affect our quality of life adversely. At the same time, making an effort to maintain a healthy brain can make every other aspect of your life more positive and more enjoyable.

In Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, best-selling author, psychiatrist and brain-imaging specialist Daniel G. Amen, M.D. demonstrates how to optimize mental performance and overcome self-defeating behaviors.
